President for more contribution of rich countries to climate fund

Thereport24.com Desk:

President Abdul Hamid on Monday urged United Nations (UN) to take steps for ensuring more contribution of the developed countries to the climate change fund.

The President said this while UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of UNDP Robert Watkins made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting, Abdul Hamid said though the developed countries are responsible for climate change, the least developed countries, including Bangladesh, are facing its adverse impact.

But the contribution of the developed countries is not satisfactory to the climate change fund, President's press secretary Joynal Abedin said, reports BSS.

The President also said that the migration problem will become worst if the impact caused by climate change is not addressed immediately.

Robert Watkins lauded the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers and said they are doing well.

He also appreciated Bangladesh role in international forums on climate change and other issues.

Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
