15-day ban on hilsa catching begins in Meghna, Tentulia

Thereport24.com Correspondent, Bhola:

A 15-day ban on catching, selling and transporting of hilsa began in Meghna and Tentulia rivers in Bhola on Friday to protect mother fishes and ensure safe spawning.

Authorities concerned cancelled the Eid-time leave of all members of the district’s Fisheries Department staff to impose the ban properly, said Pritish Kumar Mollick, the district fishery officer of Bhola.

The officer said fishermen have been asked to cooperate with the authorities in this regard.

District’s Deputy Commissioner Md Selim Reza told thereport24.com police and coastguards with the help of members of union parishads will launch mobile courts to implement the ban.

Earlier on August 27, the government announced the ban, which will end on October 9.
