More 103 trafficking victims return home

Special Correspondent, The Report:

The last batch of 727 Bangladeshi human trafficking victims, who were rescued by Myanmar Navy from Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, arrived home on Monday, foreign ministry source said.

Some 103 victims were brought back home after a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar’s Immigration and National Registration Department near Friendship Bridge along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar around 12:30pm, UNB reports quoting superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Police Shyamal Kumar Nath.

The ministry, on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, thanked Myanmar government, International Migration Organisation, and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for their cooperation in repatriating the Bangladeshi citizens.

Earlier, on five occasions, a total 626 verified Bangladesh nationals were safely repatriated from Myanmar after completing the necessary repatriation process.
