Govt seeks stay on MP Liton’s surrender order

Thereport24.com Correspondent, Dhaka:

The government on Tuesday filed a petition with the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division seeking a stay on the High Court order that directed Gaibandha’s Sundarganj lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton to surrender to a lower court in a child shooting case.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam filed the petition in the morning.

On Monday, the High Court dismissed Liton’s petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case and ordered him to surrender to a trial court by October 18.

A High Court vacation bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Bismadeb Chakrabortty gave the order.

On October 02, Sourav, a local boy, sustained bullet injuries in his legs after shots were fired from Liton’s gun.

The victim’s father filed the case with Sundarganj Police Station against the parliamentarian the following day.

The incident triggered protests among locals.
