195 foreign players, 122 domestic in BPL 3 auction

A total of 195 foreign cricketers, including 53 from Pakistan and England each and 34 from West Indies, as well as 122 local players will go on auction for the third version of Bangladesh Premiere League (BLP), due to kick off on November 20, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said.

The BPL governing council of BCB unveiled the details on the players’ price and the auction at a press conference at Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium in capital city on Wednesday ahead of the BPL auction event ‘Players by Choice’, set to start off on October 26.

BCB has categorized the foreign player in four different grades – A, B, C, and D, with the base price of USD 70,000, USD 50,000, USD 40,000 and USD 30,000 correspondingly.

Local players are also categorized in four grades – A, B, C, and D, with the base payment of Tk 35 lakh, Tk 25 lakh, Tk 18 lakh and Tk 5 lakh respectively.

Some six franchises will bid for the players for this Twenty20 (T20) mega event.

Of the Bangladeshi cricketers, six icon players will not go on auction during the players transfer.

They will be placed to their teams through a discussion between the franchises and the the governing council before the auction kicks off. The icons will also attend the auction event to help their teams choose its players.

The icon players are Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nasir Hossain, and Mahmudullah Riyad.

Of foreign players, 25 players are also from Sri Lanka, six from Zimbabwe, four from Australia and South Africa each and 15 from different other countries. There is no player from neighbouring India.

Among the top names are Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Amir, Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, and Tillakaratne Dilshan.

BCB director Sheikh Sohel, BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus and BPL governing council member secretary Ismail Haidar Secretary were also present at the press conference.
