State pleads to set date on Mojaheed, Salauddin’s review plea

Thereport24.com Desk:

The state on Thursday filed two petitions, pleading to set date for holding hearing on review petitions filed by Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Deputy attorney general Ekramul Haque told this reporter that they filed the petitions to the concerned department of the Supreme Court.

Mojaheed and Salauddin filed their pleas yesterday, pleading to review the orders of the Appellate Division, which upheld death sentences for both of them for their respective crimes against humanity.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on July 17, 2013 sentenced Mojaheed to death. The ICT-1 sentenced Salauddin to death on October 1, 2013. Mojaheed filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 12, 2013 and Salauddin lodged appeal against his sentence on October 29, 2013.

On June 16, 2015, the Appellate Division delivered its judgement, upholding death for the Jamaat secretary general. Salauddin too could not escape as the Appellate Division upheld maximum punishment for him on July 29, 2015.

The Apex Court on September 30 released the full verdict of their appeals and on October 1, the ICT-1 issued death warrant against them.
