Dhaka City Awami League general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) on Friday said staying in London in the name of undergoing treatment, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman have been hatching conspiracy against the country.

"Conspiracy has not stopped yet. The mother (Begum Zia) and her son (Tarique) are in London now. In the name of treatment they two are conspiring against Bangladesh," he said, reports BSS.

Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said this while speaking at an extended meeting of Dhaka City Awami League (AL) at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the capital. The meeting was convened to make a success the programmes of Dhaka City AL in observance of 52nd birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's slain youngest son Sheikh Russell on October 18 (Sunday).

Acting president of Dhaka City AL MA Aziz presided over the meeting, also addressed, among others, by joint general secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Vice-presidents Mukul Chowdhury and Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, joint secretary Awlad Hossain, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and publicity secretary Abdul Haque Sabuj.

Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said, "In the name of movement for consecutive 92 days, they (BNP-Jamaat) took people of the country as hostages and killed people in the recent past. But, they could do nothing. Now abstaining from their so-called war, the mother and her son are conspiring as to how foreigners could be killed in their bid to create anarchy in the country."

Calling upon the party leaders and workers to remain alert along with the law enforcers during the greatest Durga Puja festival of the Hindu community, Advocate Quamrul Islam said, "Those who pursue politics of patronising the militant forces and indulge in terrorism, arson are still active. They are brewing up a blue print centring the ensuing Durga Puja festival."

The AL leader said, "We believe in religious harmony. We believe that religion is for the respective individuals and the state is for all. So, we have to remain vigilant so that none could dare to come up with any evil design during the Durga Puja festival."
