Cyclone ‘Roanu’: Signal no. 4 issued at seaports

Thereport24.com Correspondent, Dhaka:

The deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and turned into cyclonic storm ‘Roanu’ and is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction, met office said.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant warning signal no. two (2) but instead hoist local warning signal no. four (4).

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast so that they can take shelter within a short notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

The Met Office in a special bulletin on Thursday said that the cyclonic storm ‘Roanu’ over west central bay and adjoining southwest bay moved slightly further north-northeastwards over the same area (near lat 15.50 n & long 81.50e) and was centered at 12:00 noon (the 19th may 2016) about 1365 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1335 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1185 kms southwest of Mongla port and 1215 kms southwest of Payra port.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the storm centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.
