Malta’s 52nd independence anniversary celebrated in Dhaka

Thereport24.com Desk: The 52nd anniversary of the independence of Malta was celebrated at the Lakeshore Hotel in Dhaka on the eve of 24th September 2016.

On that special occasion Consul of Malta to Dhaka, H.E. Mr. M. Shoeb Chowdhury and his spouse Dr & Mrs Jesmin Chowdhury hosted a gala reception while Home Minister Advocate Asaduzzaman Khan MP was presented as the chief guest, says a press release.

Dignitaries from different embassies in Dhaka like Russia, China, Japan and other distinguished guests, Ministers, Members of the Parliament, politicians, business leaders, media representatives, academicians, high government officials also attended the function.

When addressing the august gathering on Republic of Malta National Day, honorable Home Minister said, "Malta is a small country but it has rich history and culture. The island-state of Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea and it consists of three beautiful islands. Malta and Bangladesh are fortunate to have many things in common. ‘Maltese’ is an ancient and beautiful language like Bangla."

The Minister also said, "Both countries are members of Commonwealth of Nations with similar parliamentary traditions. Now both the countries maintain diplomatic relations. Malta has a consulate office in Dhaka and Bangladesh is represented in Malta through its consulate office in Valletta, Malta."

Asaduzzaman Khan also hoped that the relationship between these two countries will be more farm in the coming future.

While addressing the program H.E. M.Shoeb Chowdhury invited all guests to visit Malta as it prepares itself to become the 'European Cultural Capital' in 2018.

At the end of this session national anthems of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Republic of Malta were played. The celebration came to an end when the Honorary Consul Mr. M. Shoeb Chowdhury and Dr. & Mrs. Jesmin Chowdhury cut a cake along with Home Minister Asduzzaman Khan.
