SC likely to hear Govt’s, Sayedee’s review pleas on April 6

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is likely to hear the review petitions on April 6, filed by the government and convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee, against its verdict in the war crimes case.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on Monday told this to reporters.

Earlier in the morning, the review petitions were kept as item No 147 of the cause list for hearing.

On February 28, 2013, The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 sentenced Sayedee to death as it found him guilty of committing crimes against humanity.

On March 28, 2013, He filed an appeal against the tribunal judgement. The Appellate Division on September 17, 2014, commuted his death sentence to imprisonment till his natural death.

The state on January 12, 2016, filed the petition to review the apex court judgment, pleading to increase his sentence of imprisonment till death to maximum punishment.

On January 17, 2016, Sayedee also filed his review plea, seeking acquittal from the charges of crimes against humanity.
